10 Oct : Bulbs

So many things to worry about...

why are the anemones sprouting already?...
what did I plant in the wide shallow pot?...
when am I going to plant all those allium that I bought in a mad moment?...
why didn't I write the colours on the bags of tulip bulbs?...
which way is up if you are a ranunculus bulb?

    1. In your lovely South African garden it is probably because they are rare or previously unrecorded species. In my case it is solely because I threw away the packaging before I wrote down the details.

  2. Aargh. Bulb stress. It's an under-researched condition among gardeners. I have built up a certain amount of immunity over the years and resign myself to springtime surprises.

    1. I love this. I think that Bulb Stress is a seasonal variation of Pruning Anxiety and Potting Panic. The only treatment is to lie on the sofa with hot tea and a nice book with lots of pictures of lovely gardens.

  3. This year I stapled pictures cut out from the catalogue to the bags. I didn't want a repeat of last year's horrible surprise in the front border.

  4. Or not go to garden centres between August and November. I popped into my local last week for bio bags and came out with bulbs. At least they're a doddle to plant at the allotment and will add to my cutting patch. At present I'm feeling overwhelmed by produce now I have two less mouths to feed.
