26 August : Flood

I think that I might have over-achieved because after two days of heavy rain the Japanese Anemone is fully recovered...but our road has flooded. I am feeling a bit guilty and trying to avoid the neighbours. In view of the circumstances I have included a photograph of an underwater lavender bush in the front garden. Not the Japanese Anemone which is looking fabulous in the back garden. I should also like to add that I bought a new yard broom yesterday so I looked very chic as I swept away the mud.

  1. Did bunting flutter in the breeze above you as you swept the mud with the new broom? It does in my mental image.

    1. How kind of you to ask. No bunting, alas! But I was wearing a blue and white striped top with a cheery yellow anorak so a happy mixture of Gallic flair and Fireman Sam.

  2. Twice we had floods in our Porterville garden - the first time just weeks after we moved in. Our giraffe gazed out of the window in horror and it felt like Noah's ark with water on 3 sides.

Hope your water is either flowing away or drying up again?

    1. It drained away quite quickly. Our neighbours' gardens were affected more than us and there were some flooded cars but thankfully it did not get inside houses. I wish I could say our giraffe had been affected - such a lifestyle statement!

  3. I think just being able to refer casually to a yard broom instead of a garden broom is terribly cosmopolitan of you. Now can you get hold of some of those Mason jars with handles for your kale smoothie?

    1. Today I was behind a young girl in the queue at the gift shop and she was very excited about her Mason Jar with a handle and integral straw (very Amish). I thought of you and was impressed by your understanding of the youth of today. Until she turned around I could see that the slogan on her sweatshirt said "I don't like normal people".
