1 Jan : Peace

My mother says...

"Did you like my Christmas card? I decided to draw them all myself this year and of course I didn't leave enough time so some people will get their cards in the New Year but I think you appreciate cards more then because you haven't got so much to think about. The birds came out quite differently and some of them look more like pigeons of peace than doves but I don't think people will notice. I did yours last and it is so fat that I don't think it could fly at all but I hope you liked it."

I tell her that I loved the card and that it was the only one I put on our mantlepiece. My mother looks quite pleased.

  1. It's beautiful! And the sentiment is right and good, no matter the date.

    1. My mother and I agreed that we had both been idle this year with our Christmas cards. Next year will be different of course. Not.

    1. She will be thrilled - Cape Town is full of good memories especially the time that my father sewed up a porcupine in the nature reserve at the Cape of Good Hope.

    1. Pigeons, even the peaceful variety, are not welcome here after one fell down our chimney and then sat on the chair that had just been upholstered.

  7. I could use some pigeons of peace. The ones around here are decidedly cranky. (Your mother is the coolest ever.)

    1. My mother is cool but I regret to advise that the cool gene has skipped a generation and missed me.

  8. I thought it was a Picasso at first - seriously! Love the idea of pigeons of peace. There's room for a whole series of other birds: parakeets, penguins, partridges....(I'll get my coat).

    1. I mentioned this to my mother and she laughed shamelessly and said that Picasso had been her inspiration but by the time she had drawn 70 cards the similarity was quite slight.
