After all the family jollifications MrsM takes a moment to sit quietly in front of the tree in the Great Barn at Buckland Abbey. It fills the space with a simple elegance. She reflects on all that she has not done. It is a long list, a very long list. Cards, presents, cake, decorations. MrsM takes a deep breath and launches herself into emergency Christmas mode. Be afraid, shopkeepers of England, be very afraid.
As long as it's just a list of those things you have left undone which you ought to have done and not those things which you ought not to have done as well...
ReplyDeleteThe things that I ought to have done are not half so appealing as the things I ought not to have done.
Deleteam pretty fearful myself ...
ReplyDeleteI am about to switch into similar mode. Every year I leave it later and later and wonder whether I am chasing some sort of festive adrenalin rush. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI used to start in August. I must have been mad. Now I am like you and leave it to the last minute but the adrenalin threshold is getting higher and higher. My mother writes her cards after Christmas - she says that people appreciate them more.
DeleteBeautiful still photo. I would be quite happy if Christmas could simply be a tree in a barn. Every year I give up something for Christmas and this year I'm dispensing with the wrapping paper. I'm getting there!
ReplyDelete1. Need barn.
Delete2. Need v. large tree
3. Need woodcutter with axe + nice man with tractor
I'd settle just for the barn right now. x
