I have been looking for inspiration in other people's gardens. I fell in love with these purple borders and window boxes in Corpus Christi College, Cambridge when I was there on Saturday evening - those tall dark salvia! I must also tell you that there was a garden room in the Master's Lodge swathed in a pale blue climber. The flowers cascaded down from the ceiling beams in a magical way. I am not sure what the plant was - a small Clematis? Solanum? Ipomoea? I wish I had asked for permission to take a photo but I was on my best behaviour at the time.
I do love a dark, purpley-blue - those salvias are gorgeous, especially as they have dark stems too. We planted a very pretty, pale-blue clematis called 'Prince Charles' in our previous garden. If you google it you could see if it was similar to the climber you saw.
ReplyDeleteI have ransacked Google and I think it might be Clematis - viticella Little Bas. Imagine a large room with a high ceiling and the flowers cascading down over the whole room. Quite extraordinary to walk through! I don't think an annual could achieve that amount of growth by July so I assume it is a clematis of some sort.
DeleteSuch pretty window boxes.
ReplyDeleteI loved them! But I also loved the window boxes in Peterhouse which are bright lipstick pink geraniums - exactly the same colour as the geranium I threw out at the start of the summer so I felt a bit bad about that.
DeleteThat's my old college! Nice to see it looking lovely. But, what I used to really love was the frontage of Kings, on King's Parade - beautiful pink roses and lavender against that lovely warm stone. Diktynna x
ReplyDeleteHow amazing - MrM and his father and his uncle all went to Corpus but that was before it became enlightened and admitted women! We had a delicious dinner in the Hall on Saturday night and the college looked very lovely indeed.
DeleteOoh! My Dad went to Corpus too (Mum to Newnham, but I'd had enough of all girls ed by then!). But the generations would probably have been wrong for overlap... Yes, Corpus was VERY late in admitting women.
DeleteI just like looking at flowers...
ReplyDeleteMe too!
